New rules as of 10 January 2015 enabled businesses and consumers to resolve cross-border legal disputes more easily and promised to bring savings of up to €48 million each year in the EU. The rules abolished the costly and lengthy procedure, which had been used 10,000 times per year to get judgments in civil and commercial matters recognised in other EU countries. Such cross-border judgments became automatically enforceable across the EU.
