Press Release: Danuta Hübner visits Opolskie region in Poland

Danuta Hübner, Commissioner for Regional Policy visited Opolskie region (Poland) on 15-16 February 2007. On this occasion she addressed the conference "Experience of the 2004-2006 programming period in Opolskie and its relevance to 2007-2013 period". The Commissioner has also met regional authorities and visited a number of projects financed by the regional policy, of which one is called "@szko³a" (@school), which assists teachers in introducing electronic forms of communication with pupils and parents. Another project is the integrated waste water treatment in the town of Nysa and surrounding villages which addresses the main shortages of sewage systems. The objective is to improve the surface and ground water quality for 53,000 inhabitants of the commune of Nysa. The last project visited by the Commissioner is a cultural heritage and tourism project called Fortress Nysa. This old fortress is renovated with EU support in the framework of the IROP (Integrated Regional Operational Programme) in order to attract more visitors to the town.
