Press Release: Ecodesign Consultation Forum discusses concrete action to reduce “standby” electricity consumption

During a meeting of the Ecodesign Consultation Forum on 19 October 2007, Member States, industry and consumer environmental NGOs will discuss the concrete action envisaged by the European Commission to reduce standby energy consumption in household and office appliances. The discussions are based on a new study undertaken in the framework of the Ecodesign Directive, showing significant potential for the reduction of energy consumption during the standby mode in the EU.
