The European Community, represented by the European Commission, became the owner of the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) infrastructure and entrusted the company ESSP SaS with the operation of the system. EGNOS is the precursor of Galileo, the global navigation satellite system that the European Union is developing.
