Around €11.8 billion will be added to the European Union's budget in readiness for the entry of ten new Member States on 1 May 2004. The Commission adopted a proposal to amend the 2004 Budget on 4 February 2004. For 25 Member States, the budget stands at less than 1% of EU Gross National Income (GNI). These figures will increase in subsequent years to take account of the new funding challenges the EU faces. |
