EU citizens, businesses and governments believe that the Single Market plays a crucial role in meeting Europe's current challenges, but also that it can be improved and needs a clear vision for the future. This is according to responses to a European Commission consultation on future Single Market policy, launched in April 2006 (see IP/06/512). The consultation will feed into further debate on future Single Market policy, and particularly into the Commission's report on the 'Single Market in the 21st century' to be presented to the European Council in 2007. |
