Preview of the EU-US Summit in Washington D.C, 20 June 2005, where the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, together with the President-in-office of the European Council, Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, were to meet with US President George W. Bush. This Summit was seen to come at a moment when both sides showed increased commitment to engage with each other, working closely together on the promotion of democracy, on the stabilisation of Iraq and countering new threats. The Summit was to take place on the eve of an Iraq International Conference, co-hosted by the EU and the US on 22 June 2005 in Brussels. |
