Press Release: Europe agrees new rules on personal imports

The European Union's Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health agreed unanimously, on 20 September 2002, to introduce interim safeguard rules on the imports of meat, meat products and milk and milk products by individual travellers entering the EU. The effect of these rules on travellers entering the UK from 1 January 2003 will be that personal imports of meat, meat products, milk and milk products are prohibited.
