Press Release: Europe needs a ‘consultation culture’ to regulate better and be more competitive

More transparent, more effective consultation with citizens and businesses is pivotal to ensuring that Europe's laws help encourage growth, jobs and competitiveness'. That was the message from Sir David Arculus, Chairman of the UK's independent Better Regulation Task Force, as the Task Force published its latest report at the UK Presidency's Better Regulation Conference in Edinburgh, September 2005.

Get Connected: Effective Engagement in the EU is the second of a series of three reports by the Task Force on how to improve EU regulation. The first, 'Make it Simple: Make it Better' was published in December 2004 and made recommendation for how to simplify the existing body of EU law. The Task Force's third study, on how the EU could make more effective use of alternatives to regulation, will report in November 2005.
