If the reduction in R&D investment by the pharmaceutical industry within the EU is allowed to continue unchecked, Europe will pay a heavy price in terms of lost employment and reduced economic activity, according to the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Harney, when she addressed the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries Association 2004 General Assembly meeting in Dublin on 27 May 2004.
