Press Release: European Commission – building confidence in measurements

The European Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Potocnik, on 20 October 2005 openend one of the world’s largest storage buildings for reference materials at the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC-IRMM). Reference materials assure the appropriate quality of measurements and the comparability of testing data.
Reliable measurement results support environmental protection, food safety and health control, influence important decisions in industry and help to detect and combat fraud.
