European Commission kick-starts the 2013 European Year of Citizens

The European Commission launched on 1 January 2013 the European Year of Citizens, designed to highlight the rights of any citizen of the European Union.

Further information:

This European Year was set out to mark the 20th anniversary of EU citizenship, which was introduced by the Maastricht Treaty. A number of initiatives took place, including a series of sessions gathering different European Commissioners and an audience of citizens in different EU Member States.
