The Commission on 29 November 2005 adopted a Green Paper 'On the future of the European Migration Network'. The European Migration Network (EMN) had been set up in 2002 in response to the need to improve the collection and exchange of information on all aspects of migration and asylum. The Green Paper coincided with the launch of a public consultation on the issue. This was to be completed by an enlarged, joint conference between the EMN and National Contact Points on Integration and an expert hearing on this issue in March 2006. The Commission was planning to incorporate the findings of this comprehensive debate in its proposal for a legal basis for a future EMN to be adopted by the end of 2006. |
