A documentation facility for visually impaired people was opened at the European Commission on 12 February 2002. The facility will allow both visually impaired participants in meetings and interpreters who have received the necessary training with computer-based applications based on advanced technologies which will offer them the chance to have full access to the documentation available on the Internet sites of the European Institutions. The Interpretation Service employs 10 visually impaired staff or free-lance interpreters. It is to be expected that these improved facilities will lead to an increase in the number of qualified visually impaired people who can work more easily in Brussels. |
