The European Commission proposed on 4 February 2002 to set up a new programme to support intermodal freight services and contribute to fight transport congestion in the European Union. The 'Marco Polo' programme, announced in the Commission Transport White Paper of 12 September 2001, will provide Community funding to new international transport solutions, which offer a viable alternative to road freight transport. |
