On 5.3.01, the European Commissioner for Research, Philippe Busquin, gave strong support to the recently established Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). This facility is an international project to provide access to vast quantities of data on our planet's flora and fauna. The collection of data on existing species is particularly important given the fact that it may one day be the only record of species now threatened with extinction. |
