Press Release: European Ombudsman will continue to monitor Commission on freedom of expression

The European Ombudsman, Jacob Söderman, accepted in January 2002 the steps proposed by the European Commission to clarify officials' right to freedom of expression This follows his own initiative inquiry launched in February 2001. The Ombudsman will closely follow this issue, however, and might consider actions in the future, if necessary.
