The European Commission has welcomed the final adoption by the European Parliament of new EU legislation which will significantly reduce the quantity of dangerous solvents in paints, varnishes and car repair products. The European Parliament unanimously agreed on 30 March 2004 to support the Commission and Council proposal for the new legislation, which will cut emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from these products. This is a significant step towards reducing air pollution in the Union. |
