The European Commission adopted a proposal on 5 October 2004 for a decision aimed at giving the European Police College a new status. Under the Commission proposal, the College would be financed from the European Union budget and no longer by contributions from the Member States. One of the benefits would be to strengthen its secretariat, whose staff would then enjoy the same conditions of employment as officials of the European Union institutions. It would no longer be open only to senior police officers but to all personnel from the various enforcement services, including customs. |
