Press Release: France: Ensuring social cohesion

On 6 May 2004, the Prime Minister stated that one of the government's priorities was to carry out a more determined, better coordinated policy for society's most vulnerable members: 'Social cohesion is a crucial issue that will receive the government's greatest attention.' This goal has been made a reality via a series of work projects aimed at breaking down various types of ghetto, including a policy of integrating immigrants; measures to overcome community segregation; the fight against social exclusion and poverty; an urban policy aimed at reintegrating the most troubled neighborhoods into social and economic life; and the fight for equality between men and women
