Press Release: German packaging regulation: the Commission welcomes the ECJ’s fundamental ruling

The Commission welcomed the judgment from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) on the German packaging regulation, 14 December 2004. In its judgment the Court made it unmistakably clear that the introduction of a deposit/return system for drinks packaging was permissible only if all the producers and retailers concerned could actually take part in an operational return system.
