Press Release: Government tells Brussels: ‘Made in EU’ marking not needed

In a written response to a European Commission discussion document, issued to member states in December 2003 and entitled 'Made in the EU Origin Marking - Working Document of the Commission Services', which sought the views of Member States on options for introducing a possible EU origin marking scheme, the UK Trade Minister, Mike O'Brien, announced, on 4 February 2004, that the UK had rejected the suggestion.
