The European Commission announced that the EU was to invest €440 million of research money in advancing renewable energy technologies between 2002 and 2006. The objective was that by 2010 at least 12% of the EU’s overall energy consumption should come from renewable sources for both environmental and supply security reasons. Preview of a major conference on renewable energies, starting in Brussels on 21 November 2005, which was to bring together a wide range of organisations involved in research into renewable energy sources, to discuss how better to work together to develop this important sector. |
