Press Release: Greenpeace welcomes new study supporting call for EU law on illegal timber

Greenpeace welcomed on 16 June 2005 an experts' study commissioned by the Belgian government which recommends possible options to prohibit illegal timber imports into the EU, among which is a legislative proposal developed by Greenpeace, Fern and WWF in December 2004. The study, carried out by the Institute for European Studies of Brussels Free University (VUB) and unveiled at a press conference in Brussels, feeds in to an EU Commission review of
legislative options on illegal logging.
