The safety of materials used in pressure equipment comprising everything from pressure cookers to power stations will be enhanced by the newly-published first set of European Approvals of Materials (EAMs). These approvals, which enable manufacturers using innovative, modern materials to demonstrate compliance with the material safety specifications of Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC, are for Nickel 201, which is used, for example, in highly complex chemical installations. Pressure equipment made from EAM-approved materials may be sold anywhere within the EU's Internal Market, and thus create a new incentive for manufacturers to switch to safer, more modern materials. |
