Press Release: Italy: Commission takes action over breaches of environmental law

The European Commission on 26 July 2005 decided to pursue infringement proceedings against Italy in 17 cases involving breaches of EU environment law. Several environment areas were concerned: waste management, nature protection, environmental impact assessment, air quality, noise, access to environmental information and others. On the positive side, three previously publicised infringement cases had been closed since Italy had taken the necessary measures.
