Javier Solana congratualted Mr Davutoglu on his appointment as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey. His role will be critical in shaping Turkey's foreign policy towards stability and security in the wider region. Greater cooperation is necessary between the EU and Turkey, notably in the area of the negotiating efforts in Cyprus as well as in seeking to overcome the challenges
arising in the context of EU--ATO relations.
