Press Release: Kinnock welcomes Council agreement to extend current pay system for Commission staff

Vice-President Neil Kinnock welcomed the decision of 19.12.00 by the Council to extend the 'Method' - the agreement between Commission and Council which links annual pay rises for EU staff to an index of purchasing power among all of the EU Member State civil services for a period of two years. The Commission recommended this prolongation until 2003 to allow it to present the Council with a coherent package of proposals on the modification of the Commission's Staff Regulation, including aspects related to pay and pensions, towards the end of 2001.
