Kristalina Georgieva, the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, welcomed on 19 March 2010 the release in Darfur of three humanitarian workers. Gauthier Lefèvre, who had been seized by gunmen in West Darfur, is a staff member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and was released after 147 days in captivity. Olivier Denis and Olivier Frappe, who work for the French NGO Triangle, had been seized by gunmen in the neighbouring Central African Republic and held for 112 days. Both organisations are humanitarian partners of the European Commission in Sudan. |
