Danuta Hübner, the European Commissioner responsible for Regional Policy, on 31 January 2005 noted that the European Commission's proposal for the next generation of cohesion policy programmes was supported by a majority of Member States. This was a significant step towards an agreement expected for June 2005. In its proposals, the Commission called for a reformed cohesion policy based around three objectives: convergence, regional competitiveness and territorial cooperation. |
