The European Parliament's Environment Committee discussed on 18 January 2016 with Internal Market Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska a proposal to veto a draft decision to raise diesel car emission limits for nitrogen oxides (NOx) by up to 110% when the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test procedure was introduced. On 1 February 2016, the Legal Affairs committee voted to support the opinion that criticises the European Commission's proposal on RDE tests. However, on 3 February, the plenary session of the parliament decided not to veto the proposal, following the EC's promise of a review clause and a new long-term legislative proposal to revamp the European Union's car approval regime. |
