On 29 April 2014, the European Commission cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of the insurance company MetLife Assurance Limited ("MAL") by rival Rothesay Life Limited ("Rothesay"), both of the United Kingdom. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise any competition concerns, in particular because the merged entity would continue to face strong competition after the merger. |
