Press Release: Mergers: Commission approves proposed acquisition of Alcan Packaging by Amcor, subject to conditions

The European Commission cleared on 15 December 2009 under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of the flexible packaging and folding carton businesses of the UK-based Alcan Packaging by Amcor of Australia. The Commission's decision is conditional upon the divestiture of the major part of Amcor's business in pharmaceutical flexible packaging. In light of Amcor's commitments, the Commission has concluded that the proposed transaction would not significantly impede effec tive competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
