Press Release: Mergers: Commission ends investigation after CVC and Ferd abort proposed acquisition of SIG and withdraw notification

The European Commission has acknowledged the withdrawal by CVC (Luxembourg) and Ferd (the owner of Elopak of Norway) of their notification of a proposed acquisition of joint control over SIG (Switzerland) following their unsuccessful public bid for SIG's shares. The proposed transaction, notified to the Commission on 10 November 2006, essentially would have resulted in the combination of Elopak’s and SIG’s carton packaging businesses.
