Press Release: New report on ‘ Cohesion’: Anna Diamantopoulou calls for reform of the structural funds

European Commissioner, Anna Diamantopoulou, has taken the opportunity of the publication of the first interim report on social and economic cohesion on 30 January 2002 to call for reform of the structural funds and their activities after 2006. According to the Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, the new style knowledge-based economy merits a new approach to the concept of structural funds which focuses as much on 'human investment' as on developing the physical infrastructures.
