The Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) of the Council of the European Union approved on 11 November 2015 a draft regulation, voted by the European Parliament on 28 October, regarding novel foods.

Novel foods are foods not consumed in the European Union to a significant degree before May 1997. They include for instance foods to which a new production process is applied.
