In a speech at the occasion of the anniversary of the Fall of the Wall in Berlin on 9 November 2013, President Herman Van Rompuy set out how the dramatic events of late 1989 changed Germany and Europe as a whole, and how even today, in 2013, we are still shaping and debating what was set in motion then. How we are still building ‘post-Wall Europe’, ‘Nach-MauerEuropa’. He focused on three issues decided in the wake of 9 November 1989: the euro, free movement of all EU citizens, and Europe’s foreign policy. |
