Press Release: Promoting EU citizens’ exercise of their electoral rights in their State of residence in the context of European elections

The Commission is presenting two initiatives on 13 December 2006: a report on the application during the European Parliament elections of 2004 of Council Directive 93/109/EC, which lays down detailed arrangements for the exercise of the right to vote and stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament for citizens of the Union residing in a Member State of which they are not nationals, and proposals for improving certain provisions of this Directive.
