Press Release: Remarks by Dr. Javier Solana, High Representative of the European Union for CFSP on the occasion of the official launching of the Political and Security Committee, Brussels, 1.3.00

A milestone in the development of the European Foreign Common and Security Policy took place on the 1 March 2000. It was the first meeting of the European Union's interim Political and Security Committee. This is a first step in the establishment in Brussels of the bodies charged with ensuring the necessary political guidance and strategic direction to the strengthened European Policy on Security and Defence (extracted from the speech by Dr Javier Solana).
