Press Release: Social Summit : Commission will call on social partners to play their full part in the Lisbon strategy

European Commission President Romano Prodi and Anna Diamantopoulou called upon the European social partners to play their full role in reaching the goals set out in the Lisbon strategy to marry competitiveness and cohesion in order to become the world's top place to live and do business by 2010. They spoke in Barcelona at the now habitual 'Social summit' on the 14 March 2002 held on the eve of each spring European Council.
