Press Release: State aid: Commission opens in-depth investigation into restructuring aid to Italian chemical companies NGP and Simpe

The European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation under EC Treaty state aid rules into restructuring aid of around €20.87 million to the Italian chemical companies NGP and Simpe. The aid was granted for the restructuring of the polymerisation assets of NGP and Simpe in Acerra, Campania. The Commission needs to verify whether the companies financed 50% of the restructuring costs by their own means as stipulated by the Commission's rules on restructuring aid and whether compensatory measures have been taken to offset any distortions of competition. The opening of a formal investigation will give interested parties an opportunity to comment on the measures. It does not prejudge the outcome of the procedure.
