Press Release: Strength through unity: the European Commission asks for the European Community’s accession to the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Maritime Organisation

The European Commission called on the Council on 9 April 2002 to authorise negotiations for the European Community's accession to the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Maritime Organisation allowing the European Union to finally be a party in these important international organisations which come within the scope of its competence but in which it currently only plays a minor role as an observer.
