Press Release: The 2001 Broad Economic Policy Guidelines

On 25 April 2001 the European Commission adopted a recommendation for approval at the Göteborg European Council on the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines (BEPGs) of the Member States and the European Union. At the centre of the economic policy co-ordination process, they provide the framework for the definition of the overall policy objectives and orientations for the Member States and the Union. The 2001 BEPGs confirm the strategy set out in 2000 to meet the objectives of the Lisbon Summit, and extend it further in light of the results of the Stockholm Summit in March 2001.
