The second European Cohesion Forum was held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 21-22 May 2001. The forum launched the wide-ranging consultation sought by the Commission following the adoption, on 31 January 2001, of the second report on economic and social cohesion. The report assesses the cohesion policy, which is the European Union's principal instrument for supporting balanced and harmonious regional development in Europe. It also raises issues concerning regional development and enlargement of the European Union.
