Press Release: The Council and the European Parliament reach informal agreement on safety of offshore oil and gas operations

The Permanent Representatives Committee of the Council today (27.2.2013) endorsed the agreement reached with the European Parliament on 21 February on the directive on safety of
offshore oil and gas operations.

The text was negotiated in trilogue meetings between the Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission. To enter into force it still needs to be formally approved by the Parliament (tentatively May 2013) and by the Council (after the plenary vote in the Parliament).
