Press Release: The European Commission sets a positive agenda for the 2005 review of the Sustainable Development Strategy

The European Commission on 9 February 2005 adopted a Communication in which it took stock of the developments since the adoption in June 2001 of the EU Sustainable Development Strategy in Gothenburg. The new Communication set out the Commission's ideas for the first review of the Sustainable Development Strategy and was planned to be followed by a second Communication to Parliament and Council. The process of reviewing the Strategy which addresses the most serious threats to sustainable development in Europe and the world also included a public consultation in October 2004 and a stakeholder conference on 14-15 April 2005, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee.
