Regional co-operation for protecting the Danube river and the Black Sea will receive a strong push forward when Environment Ministers of this region meet the European Commissioner for Environment, Margot Wallström, on 26 November 2001 in Brussels. Ministers will adopt an unprecedented declaration on water protection in the wider Black Sea Region and will commit to restoring the ecosystems and the water quality of one of the most important water basins in Europe. During the same event, two major regional organisations for water protection will for the first time sign a joint agreement to safeguard the Danube and the Black Sea from further deterioration. |
