The United Nations (UN) Convention on Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances aims to promote cooperation among the Parties so that they may address more effectively the various aspects of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances having an international dimension. The Convention entered into force in November 1990.

In March 2019, during its sixty-second session, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) is to adopt scheduling-decisions on the addition of four substances in the Tables of the Convention, namely 3,4-MDP-2-P methyl glycidate (“PMK glycidate"), 3,4-MDP-2-P methyl glycidic acid (“PMK glycidic acid”) and alpha-phenylacetoacetamide (APAA) and hydriodic acid.
