Legislative proposal put forward by the European Commission on 12 June 2018 establishing the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the period 2021-2027. It repeals Regulation (EU) No 508/2014.
This programme aims to target funding from the EU budget to support the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), the EU's maritime policy and the EU's international commitments in the field of ocean governance.
The EMFF co-finances projects alongside national funding streams, with each Member States receiving a share of the total budget. Member States draw up their national operational programmes, specifying how they intend to spend the money. Once approved by the Commission, national authorities decide which projects they wish to support.
The proposal was put forward in the framework of the discussions on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2021-2027. The European Parliament adopted its negotiating position on 4 April 2019, followed by the Council of the European Union on 18 June.
