The Portuguese government proposes to change the contributory scheme for the self-employed covering all risks with a view to increasing the effectiveness of social protection for this category. However, this important goal is expected to be achieved within a very strict financial framework: the government’s declared intention is that any changes to the current situation should not impact negatively on the sustainability of the Social Security system.
